It's not a reality show, its a real reno

Pinaster Place is half renovation & half rebuild.

Its a re-invention of our family home, and so far, its been all on paper. Work began in October 2010, and the builders have set a cracking pace.

Well, the original 12-month completion is a few months behind, but we're so close to finishing it! (And we're going mental in the rental!)

The walls are going up and up

Walls around the "bunker" garage and playrrom are going up, being water-proofed, and strengthened to retain the back-fill that will eventually come...

Big Hole Becomes Big Flat Bit

The big diggers have moved dozens of truckloads of sand to create the space for the new garage.

Another Big Day, Another Big Digger

Its been a big first day on the excavation of the new garage at Pinaster Place

It began with a big digger and
a lot of noise and progress
...and the sand began to pile up

...until we hit a bit of a water pipe
Hugo took on a bit of site management
(and wasn't sure about the location
of the new swimming pool)

The Water Corp guys worked into the night
to fix the mains
Thanks, gents.
(oh, and about the severed Telstra
phone cables...)

Site Meetings Start

Site meetings kicked off this morning, and everything is looking a lot cleaner and more organised than last week's rubble-strewn disiaster area!

What a clean building site!
Sarah is now in charge...

The Soon-To-Be-Ex Front Wall

So this retaining wall is soon to be demolished, and replaced by a big old hole in the ground.

Electrical Thingies

The overhead electrical wire protector thingies are on today, so we should be able to start some heavy excavation action of the front slope (see next post). Hopefully not too much heavy rock or limestone outcrops!
